Set in the early 1970’s, Sophie Simpleton lives with and loves her animals, both domestic and wild, on her mountain which overlooks the ocean. 

Nearly nine years old, she is the ugly duckling, the cinder-covered Cinderella, and the underdog. Loved by a growing number of eclectic individuals, but in the eyes of many, Sophie is un-extraordinary. 

Through a series of unfortunate events that occur to those who are her friends, and those who are her enemies, she surprises her critics by rising far above what they considered as un-extraordinary. 

Sophie Simpleton’s mountain is struck by a destructive cyclone. In a matter of seconds it resembles a war zone.

Yet, amidst this tragedy, Sophie has acquired two new friends; the ex-bully wheelchair-bound Leslie Longwood, and her not quite perfect Jewish friend, Phib. Together they have many adventures while facing another storm; the onslaught of bullies, and those who seek to destroy their world.

Sophie, having already prevailed against great odds in her young life, is now brimming with fresh confidence, as she invites her friends and enemies to her ninth birthday.

And time and time again, in the lead up to that auspicious event, she experiences the miraculous at the hands of the One with whom she has fallen in love.
